Clothing producers are the ones that translate new designs and product concepts into able to be worn, bought, and manufactured items.
Producing a clothing product, unlike many other products, needs much more than just the obvious sewing. A product requires appropriate materials, sizes, construction, finishing and control before it is finally available to the end users.
Gaining an understanding of how the process of garment manufacture works can benefit the brand by providing more effective planning and clearer recommendations.
Clothes producers are different according to the project.
Work is sometimes heavily concentrated on ready-made garments and private labels. Or alternatively it can be based on an existing brand, using the company designs, samples or technical packs.
A production project may include fabric sourcing, pattern making, sampling, cutting, sewing, printing, embroidery, finishing, packaging and quality control.
The formulation process can vary depending on how many own product claims the brand want to develop.
The most common starting point is the product information.
A brand might at every stage have a full, detailed tech pack with measurements, fabric details, construction details and artwork.
Oneother brands offerto provide only a sample garb or a design idea.
In order to make a sample, the producer must first be aware of the finished product‘s appearance and/or feel.
Ensure there are well defined requirements at this point to avoid iterations of unnecessary work later.
Fabric has a direct influence on the finished garments.
The product is affected by each of the following: weight, composition, texture, stretch, color, drape and durability.
For the T-shirt a lightweight cotton would be okay and as a web face fleece a heavier fleece may be more suitable for the hoodie.
The other co-invested fabric is also aimed at a specific cohort and it‘s purpose;
Regarding custom-made clothing, then the selection of fabric too can be defined as a stage of product development instead of concern after the completion of design.
A sketch can demonstrate what a garment would look like, however it cannot illustrate all the elements of how it would function in reality.
The physical sample enables the brand to test the fit, fabric, measurements, construction, color and finishing.
At this point, changes are usual.
The sleeve may need to be shorter. The body may need to be wider. The fabric may need to be heavier or softer.
Making these adjustment is very much simpler before production is commenced on the entire batch.
If the sample and specifications are approved, the garment can then be produced.
The fabric is laid out, prepared and cut to the pattern, which received approval.
Then, the pieces are assembled and transferred to others sewing operations.
Various garments follow different sequences in the manufacturing process.
From a simple T-shirt to a jacket, denim or a detailed street-wear piece, there may be many more operations to perform.
The more output, the more variance in that output so consistency becomes more significant.
Numerous other processes are necessary for many garments once the garment has been sewn.
These may include printing, embroidery, washing, labels, patches, trims, or other finishing details.
The method has to be related to the garment and fabric.
E.g., for an elastic fabric, the printing method must be suitable to withstand repeated stretch and severe conditions of wear, while for embroidery, the weight of the base fabric and the fabric structure should be taken into account.
These are not separate from manufacturing but are already included in the final product.
Only relying on the process control at the end stage of the process can lose sight of quality.
Issues may arise at each step of production.
Could be a problem with fabric;cutting;stitching;placing of print.
Ab-Checks in production provide the manufacturer with an opportunity to catch the issue before production begins on a larger scale.
The final inspection comes in prior to packing and shipping.
Though a sample has been approved, it does not necessarily mean a completed bulk order.
Indeed, when for example using stock, it is strictly necessary to adhere to the specifications of the approved product.
All measurements, fabric, colours, stitch, labels and finishing to be within the agreed specifications.
This is especially crucial in the case of brands for which there are a high number of repeat orders.
The consumer must be able to buy an identical item at a later time, without significant changes in fit or quality.
We work with clothing brands in JiuvelWear, OEM, ODM, private label or made to order.
Any of the following items can be used as a starting point depends on the project we work on tech pack, design, reference sample, or our product idea.
Test support could be provide, such as: fabric sourcing, samples, patteming, custom branding, packaging, bulk production and quality control.
Our Product experience includes denim, streetwear, hoodies, T-shirts, and custom apparel.
What can be individually altered is another issue that stems from the degree of customisation.
Brands may need only labels and packaging, while other may require the creation of the garment from fabric and fit up.
Yourmodel may work for some brands, while othersmayrequire a different approach.
A new business could employ private label products initially, to assess customer endears.
Another brand may have the designs ready to go and just require a factory to produce a completed product.
Paramount brands may be produced in larger quantities and repetitive manufacturing.
The correct production system must be appropriate for the product, the volume, the degree of customization, and the life cycle stage of the business.
The more information gives you, the easier it is to know what is required to produce.
Useful materials can include:
It‘s a good thing to have a complete tech pack, but not an requirement when starting.
Meet the requirements: this refers to the case that a brand has only one product idea or reference garment, on which we can discuss the requirements before the sampling.
The first sample is just a single component of a manufacturing relationship.
In the case of expanding brand, the question becomes even more relevant, whether the producer will be able to cope with growth in the future additional development, repeat orders.
This is what makes for a good production partner: being able to ‘share an understanding of the product’, ‘Having clear lines of communication’, delivering ‘Consistent quality’ and ‘Being able to adapt as the brand grows’.
Which might be more advantageous over time than otherwise choosing the lowest initial cost of production.
Clothing production is a complex process encompassing many different stages.
The fabric should actually work.
Balancing has to fit.
The sample still has to be approved.
In the form of: Production must meet specifications.
The quality has got to be the same.
And the final products have to reach the state the brand expects.
Here at JiuvelWear we collaborate with clothing brands willing to create and produce their own apparel, from the first sample to bulk production.
