Choosing an Oversized T Shirt Supplier for Custom Production

Oversized T-shirts are easy to design and look good, but many tiny details affect the way they sit on a person. When choosing an oversized t shirt supplier, fabric, pattern shape, shoulder width, sleeve length and body length need to all be compatible. A decent sample should also retain its fit not only after washing but when sent into production.

Start with the Fabric

A huge impact on the T-shirt is by the fabric.

Cotton jersey is great for the more casual styles as it is nice and soft and comfortable. A thicker and stronger jersey can add more volume and make the shirt look more street wear related. A thinner, more draping type of fabric best suits a more laid back summer style.

GSM provides the purchaser with an good indication of the weight of the fabric, but it can be misleading. Two fabrics with the same GSM will feel different because of the yarns and fibres used and the way they are knit together.

More accurate testing will have to be done by the buyers on the fabric, and they need to look at actual fabric rather than just picking a weight out of a spec sheet. Hand feel, stretch, surface looks, how it recovers is all very important when aiming at a particular oversize silhouette.

Oversized Fit Starts with the Pattern

An oversized T-shirt is not simply a matter of size.

Design Pattern. The Design Pattern defines the real shape of the garment. The chest width, shoulder width, sleeve length, sleeve opening, body length and wide line all influence the final fit.

A drop shoulder gives the effect of something different form a standard shoulder seam. A wider body with a shorter length gives a boxy shape. A longer body with wide sleeves gives a more relaxed shape.

This is why brands need to provide the supplier with precise measurements rather than just a “loose fit”. The supplier needs accurate dimensional points to recreate the shape they have to work with.

The neck line also needs thought. A wide neckline can look casual but if it is too open then the shirt can lose its shape. The shape of the rib, the width, stitching and recovery have an influence here.

Sleeve Shape Changes the Look

Sleeves are often wider or longer on oversized T-shirts, so a lot of thought should be put into their construction.

A shorter wide sleeve gives a boxy clean appearance. An even longer sleeve gives the shirt a more streetwear style. The opening of the sleeve also influences how the fabric hangs from shoulder to cuff.

A subtle change in the pattern can have a very different feel to it when the shirt is worn. As a result it is better for the design to be judged on a person of a mannequin, instead of the measurements.

The shoulder seam must also be in the correct position. A drop shoulder must look fashion conscious than appear purely grossly oversize.

Good Construction Keeps the Shape

It is easily identified that the T-shirt was larger than a regular sizing T-shirt. A larger T-shirt has a larger amount of material. So, the quality of the construction is a little bit more visible.

The Shoulder seams need to be stitched cleanly. The seams of the sleeves should follow the pattern without twisting. The bottom hem should remain flat after sew and wash.

The collar requires extra attention. It is one of the first things noticed by the customer. A Bad ribbed collar will have a lot of stretch after wear. Also, bad seam construction can make an uneven effect on the neck line.

These areas should be watched by a supplier in sample development, not just in final inspection.

Washing Can Change the Fit

So a sample may appear normal prior to wash and abnormal subsequent to wash.

Cotton fabrics have the tendency to shrink during washing and drying. The length and width of the body of the garment might be affected. Neck areas are susceptible to becoming misshapen. Twist can sometimes occur after wash.

ISO 5077:2007 outlines a technique to determine the dimensional changes of fabric and garments after predetermined washing and tumble drying operations. It allows the consumer a means of verifying that the finished garment conforms to its prescribed dimensions.

For an oversized T-shirt, that‘s even more important, because the fit is much more affected by garment proportions. A few centimeters in body length or width will influence the whole silhouette.

If the article needs high dimensional stability, buyers are recommended to check important measurements after washing.

A lot of brands want a baggy T-shirt that looks a bit different from a plain blank.

This could mean a custom design, a special fabric weight or colour, a different neckline or sleeve length, or a very specific hem finish.

Branding may also include woven labels, printed labels, embroidery, screen printing, hangtags and custom packaging.

A clear tech pack is useful to the supplier in understanding these requirements. It can include measurements, artwork, fabric details and construction details.

The sample then allows the brand to look at the actual garment. If the chest width appears to be too wide or the body lengths seem to be too long it is now easy for the brand to alter the pattern for bulk production.

Sampling Should Solve Fit Problems

The first sample does not need to be great. It needs to be able to show you where the product needs to be improved.

The most effective to fit is. First is the main length measurements. Then, the buyers can examine the clothing on the model and check the proportion.

For instance, a shirt could be wide enough across the chest but still appear too long. Alternatively, a different sample could be the right length for the body but have sleeves that feel too tight.

These issues are more straightforward with more specific feedback from the Customer. “Make it slightly smaller” doesn‘t help much. The change of dimensions at least gives the pattern team something concrete to proceed from.

If the main sample receives the buyer‘s approval, the manufacturer should treat that sample as the production prototype.

MOQ Depends on the Customization

The minimum order quantity may vary from project to project.

A plain oversize T-shirt made from typical fabric will be produced differently to a shirt made from custom fabric, custom colours, special labels and custom packaging.

The effect that colour has in buying materials. Within the one style, several of the colours need to be prepared from separate fabrics.

The correct supplier is not necessarily a supplier which can provide the lowest MOQ but the one which provides the complete order structure. The best supplier should match the first order of the brand and enable future replenishments.

Quality Control Needs More Than a Final Check

Issues with quality may crash into various parts of the production.

The team shall check the fabric before cut. There are certain rules and inspection points on fabric cutting. There is standard procedure on pattern making. Sewing team shall inspect overlock, underseaming, interseaming, collar, sleeve and hems.

Measurement checks are also required for the finished garments.

For oversized T-shirts, useful checkpoints include:

  • Width and length of the Body: Throughout all the experiments course it had two variable factors,Body widthandBody length. As an important part of the shape accurately made as possible.
  • Shoulder width
  • Sleeve length
  • Sleeve opening
  • Neckline shape
  • Collar stitching
  • Hem appearance
  • If you choose to set the print or embroidery position part of the garment draw a new line across the second dart and trace it.
  • Fabric colour
  • Overall garment appearance is additional factors such as the designer‘s unique design signature or monochrome.

These balances check that the bulk order is close to the sample agreed upon.

Labels Need the Right Information

Accurate product labeling is required on a custom T-shirt.

In the US, for most covered textile products, information is often required on fibre content, country of origin and identification of the responsible business. Covered apparel also requires care instructions under FTC rules.

The label must be appropriate for the garment. Manufacturers who change fibre contents to a style must check the label text again before production.

Brands operating in different markets should also verify local labelling regulations in case they are planning to produce a large order.

Reorders Test the Supplier

A supplier can produce 1 good sample without good repeatability control.

The real challenge is almost always the following order.

A while after reordering the confirmed oversize t-shirt the retailer may order it again but in a different colour. In such case the supplier has to produce the same pattern, fabric, measures and constructions specifications to be used in the production..

Good production records help to ensure consistency. The supplier has the approved sample, measurement chart, fabric specification and colour reference file for production use.

This becomes important if a brand takes a beloved T-shirt and makes it a core part of their range.

What to Check Before Choosing a Supplier

Price Price presents a single figure with which to make comparisons. A more effective assessment considers the entire product.

Ensure the company‘scapableofworking with the fabric, is able to produce the plan pattern and make fit samples check the quality of the sewing and its collar construction, its measurements and wash ability.

Additionally, inquire about how the supplier manages custom labels, colors, printing, embroidery and packaging. Should you anticipate ordering repeatedly, speak to how the supplier preserves production details.

That?S how it is supposed to be. Should not be better than the sample? Only as good. Finished T-shirt should not differ from example that has been approved, should?T ordinary Photos of it in product page.
