Plain clothing has a different role to completed, branded stock. Numerous companies purchase plain T-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts etc in unbranded form to decorate using screen printing, embroidery or private labels, or to sell as ‘lonely’ items for customers to thread through their wardrobe. For this reason plain clothing suppliers need to offer more than just low bulk buy margins. The quality of fabric, how they fit, their uniformity, ability to be decorated and how reliable their distribution is are all factors.
Most plain apparel programs are centered around the standard product of T shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, longsleeves, joggers and polos. Print shops will often buy them to embellish or decorating. Clothing brands will often buy such items to supply with their private label collections.
What does the buyer want to happen after the garment is shipped from the supplier? For example, a T-shirt calls for a surface that will accept the process of decoration needs of the merchandise. The heavyweight hoodie requires sufficient structure for the desired artwork. The private-label brand possibly requires the same product to be kept available to purchase in the future.
That conceives of the garment itself as the primary referent rather than the lack of an emblem.
Fabric weight can significantly affect the visual and tactile qualities of a blank piece of clothing. Most existing wholesale blank lines list fabric weights in ounces or GSM, from lightweight T-shirts through to heavy weight fleece hoodies. For example, current wholesale listings include T-shirts from approximate GSM are 153 to 203, and around 264 to 298 GSM for hoodies.
Heaviness also influences a garment’s drape, hand and decoration. A cotton T shirt weighing less than a 20 hg can be as effective with a large screen, as a more robust sweatshirt.
Weight is also important, but so is fiber makeup. each fiber has its own qualities so check the actual fabric specification rather than just the look of the garment.
Eliminating branding does not eliminate the relevance of fit.
Classic, easy, oversize, slim and unisex silouettes develop seperate product. Buyers should measure the actual way of clothes instead of looking at a size (S, M) etc.
This point is proven more relevant when a business is adding its own branding. The consumer will relate the finished product to that brand instead, despite the fact that a different enterprise supplied the blank garment.
The sample measurements can determine the differences in body length, chest width, sleeve length, shoulder shape, rise and many other functional areas before a large quantity is ordered.
Numerous basic items will in the end be decorated with screen printing, DTF, DTG, embroidery or heat-transfer. Today‘s wholesale vendors routinely place blank apparel near these processes, especially for print shops, embroidery firms, merch companies and labels.
The ordering of the garments from the decoration method should be early.
The type of print shop will influence: – a flat surface to stitch onto or an appropriate fabric structure, – quality of fabric construct for embroiderers, – Fabric weight, surface appearance and feel of finished design for a designer using large graphics etc.
Ordering a cheap blank first and then finding out how the decoration works is performed can lead to problems. Better to do the test on the actual garment with which the decoration is to be used. It gives a far clearer answer.
Stock blank apparel offers advantages when quick delivery and flexibility are required. Buyers can trial styles, order lower quantities, or keep a best-selling range running while waiting for a new screen run. Some wholesale suppliers now stock a range of stock items without a minimum order quantity allowing buyers to trial individual garments before committing to higher volumes.
Custom production operates differently. When selecting a blank collection, customer can create custom colors, measurements, fabrics, labels and construction.
It really depends on your business model. A screen printer that needs many standard T-shirt styles might like the ready stocked blanks. A clothing label wanting its own fit and colors can offset the extra prices withmoreVALUE in the long run that comes with custom manufacturing.
Most importantly, Min qty has no value without the product specification standing behind it.
Many standard stock garments are capable of fulfilling even very small Run Quantities. Custom Colors tend to be larger minimums, since the factory has more material and production to contend with, and a full Custom cut-and-sew development can demand an even larger commitment.
This gap is evident in existing supplier programs. A wholesaler we have worked with features a standard blank offering with no hard minimum, but has separate lines for depth on custom colors and new cut and sew styles.
Buyers should ask for specific MOQs rather than one general MOQ. For example MOQs for each style and color foreachsize. And find out the maximum MOQs that factory require.
A good first shipment isn’t always a guarantee of a good long term supply relationship.
If a company prints, embroiders or re-sells blank garments then they will be placing an order for the same style on more than one occasion. The fabric weight, measurements and colour should all remain the same as previous shipments.
Minor variations can become issues if customers restock the same items or if a print shop mixes garments from various batches in a single project.
Maintaining approved samples and well-documented specifications allows both partie to have a reliable reference. Buyers should also enquire about the procedure adopted by the supplier when a best selling style comes back for an order, in terms of fabric substitutions and production records.
Plain garments could also be the beginning of a private-label collection.
Within that model, the buyer also can have the original neck label changed, a woven or printed merchandizing label be added, hang tags inserted, and upscale packaging designed and produced. Some vendors offer both blank garment sourcing and relabeling, finishing, and decorating to facilitate an entire range of activities through a single manufacturer.
The distinction is important because the buyer that simply needs blank T-shirts has different requirements from a brand that is happy with a finished article ready for the shops.
Check, in advance, that the team will do the relabeling, care labels, hangtags, packaging, finishing work, etc. That spares you from an apparent simple blank-apparel order becoming many different sourcing jobs.
A supplier‘s product catalogue can tell you what they supply, but a few simple questions reveal much more.
Inquire about the fabric content and weight. Find out the range of sizes and colors. Require a sample before ordering in bulk. A…seems to be compatible with my printing/hard adornment processes.
Repeat purchase find out how they keep measurements and fabric specs the same from run to run. If you are creating a private label line, find out about relabeling, special colors, packaging and any minimum quantities that are associated with this service.
By giving all of this information, buyers are able to compare suppliers by the true value of production and not just price per unit.
Different buyers require different type of plain suppliers.
A print shop may seek ready stock, consistent blanks and good decoration compatibility. A retailer may focus more on colors, sizes, fabric quality and reliable replenishment. A company expanding in to clothing brand may begin with stock blanks, but progress on to private-label or custom cut-and-sew clothing.
If that evolution makes sense for where order volumes and product requirements are heading, the current players dependably provide the basic blanks that lead into private label or custom manufacturing as well.
JiuvelWear is the apparel manufacturing division for Dongguan Jiuzuo Clothing Co., Ltd. They offer custom apparel manufacturing, private-label manufacturing, fabrics sourcing, sample development, and production quality control services for fashion brands and wholesale programs.
The best plain garment is not the cheapest or the heaviest. It needs to fit in with your intended process of decorating, selling, tagging and reordering. When buyers compare fabric, fit, decorate, min order quantity, consistency and private-label possibilities, they can find a model of supply suitable to the way they do business.
