Yoga Clothing Manufacturers: Designing Yoga Wear That Breathes & Stretches Beside You

Yoga clothing manufacturers are aware that perfect-looking pairs of leggings on a hanger might not be the same once you get moving.

And that is the curious thing about the clothes of yoga. While they appear to be ordinary sporting apparel leggings, a sports bra, or a tight-fitting shirt they also have to work in a different way when the body‘s motion begins to alter.

A good-looking sample is just the start.

A Yoga Legging Has to Work When the Body Moves

A standard garment may look good when it is steady.

Yoga clothing has a much harder task.

The fabric of this group will constantly be stretching as the garment is worn. The waist band will need to retain its position during movement. Seams will need to reduce their stress as the body moves in comfort. Dress must be opque when stretched and be able to recover its shape.

There is a possibility that they may not be evident by viewing the image of a product.

They are quite apparent on close inspection once somebody has actually worn it.

The Fabric Can Look Right and Still Be Wrong

The softness and stretchiness of a fabric does not necessarily make it a good choice for a specific yoga garment.

Having said that, it is just a fraction of the story.

Recovery is important as well. Fabrics that are very stretchy but do not recover quickly tend to become misshapen over time.

Opacity is another issue too in case of leggings.

Next, there is the tradeoff between softness, breathability and support and weight.

No single fabric would inherently create good yoga wear. Fabric selection is determined by the garment and how it is anticipated to behave.

Then You Put the Garment Through Real Movement

This is where a sample begins to speak the truth.

So a waistband which seemed to fit well when fitting can shift as you stretch.

A pair of leggings which appeared to be solid when standing might become s therefore.

A seam, which at first it appeared harmless, may become noticeable after repeated movement.

These are not issues which would always be obvious from a measurement chart.

The dress has to move.

Therefore, it is necessary to think about yoga wear as an item worn by a mobilized body rather than of something else falling into (another) category of clothing.

Small Construction Details Become Big Problems

Design is what is paid the most attention, yet I feel the finer details are really what make something comfortable.

The fit of a waistband or the design can influence how well the legging stays in position.

Seams may influence comfort in motion.

The gussets make the garment move more freely.

As with sports bras and fitted tops, the support and construction are just as important.

Now, none of these things may look especially impressive when attached to a product photo.

They could make a big difference in the first hour of wear.

The First Sample Should Be Tested, Not Admired

A table-mounted sample may look very presentable.

This is not to say that this is ready for production.

The patent test which applies to yoga clothing as well is whatever occurs when one actually wears it.

Stretch it.

Mature.

Wash it.

Of course, we will want to wear it again.

Observe how the fabric bounces back and if the fit alters.

The sample has to answer questions and not just face- high.

Occasionally, the most important finding from the preliminary sample is the need to make a change.

What Brands Should Discuss With Yoga Clothing Manufacturers

Price and minimum order quantity are definitely the more important part of the decision making process, but they are not the only questions worth asking.

A brand wanting to produce yoga wear will need to know what fabrics the manufacturer usually uses, if they are able to create a custom fabric, how many samples are produced before the garment is signed off and if the approved design can be duplicated.

Another issue that is also interesting to touch on is what do we do about the level of fabric, fit or construction, when one needs to change during development?

Our aim is not to find a factory that would just say yes.

What it is for is to find someone who will produce it for you.

A Good Sample Is Not Yet a Good Product

While it is very common to make this type of mistake believing that a successful sample will guarantee that the production will be successful.

No it does not.

The fabric would also have to be still available.

Measurements must be kept consistent.

The colors and finishing have to be controlled.

The construction should be repeatable over a larger order.

This is of even greater concern for brands that are doing try-and-buy stock: where the styles are being kept constant across a collection and reorder‘d.

The crucial question is not if two articles can be made excellently.

It is if the same piece of clothing can still be produced successfully.

Developing Yoga Wear With JiuvelWear

We work with clothing brands creating custom garments and private label collections at JiuvelWear.

For the right project we can offer fabric sourcing, sampling, customizing patterns, labels, packaging, and bulk manufacturing.

The brand could present us with a finished design, a reference garment, a tech pack, or just an initial concept.

With yoga and fitness apparel the attention to details because this has to work on the body and not only in the photograph.

That is where the correct manufacturing route makes the difference.

A good yoga wear is the one that moves with the person and doesn‘t seem to constantly remind the person it‘s there.

It sounds like it should work.

The difficult part is to make it happen all the time.
